Cappuccino Mug Cake + Review


I love cake. If I could eat it everyday and not succumb to weight gain I’d do it as I just love it so much and I suspect you’re the same, am I right?

If I’m right then this recipe is perfect for you, as long as you have a microwave and a mug that you can use in a microwave. I’m very happy to announce that I’m going to be Panasonic Brand Embassador for a year, how exciting is that! I’ll be reviewing some of their wonderful products and creating fun, tasty and really easy recipes that you can create in your home kitchen too. This Cappuccino Mug Cake is the first one so grab a cuppa, a snack of course and get comfy.

I was asked to review this beast of a kitchen appliance, the Steam Combination Oven. It’s huge and a really great product. Besides looking good, it’s practical and we all need practicality in our ever more increasing hectic lives. You can do loads with it, from steaming veggies, cooking meals and baking cakes, including this mug cake. It does everything an oven does so I think this would be a perfect appliance for someone with a small kitchen or an elderly person. It’s not hard to use and would fit in nicely in anyone’s kitchen.

What I love about this mug cake is the simplicity of it and how it tastes absolutely wonderful. It’s like a soft, pudding-y cake in a mug. All you do is add the ingredients, one by one, stirring each into one another, pop it in the microwave and in less than 2 minutes you’ll be rewarded with a lovely hot cake and it’s for yourself.

This no ordinary chocolate mug cake, I stepped it up and flavoured it with one of favourite flavours, coffee. This Cappuccino Mug Cake has added espresso and spoonful of Kahlua liquor on top. I could drink coffee all day long and eat this all day long, it was utterly divine and tastes so good whilst warm.

So when only cake will do, do the sensible thing, make a mug cake for yourself and enjoy it, perhaps with a dollop of ice cream on top. Sounds good doesn’t it.



Cappucinno Mug Cake

Course: Mini Cakes
Servings: 1 serving
Prep time: 5 min
Total time: 6 min


  • 2 tablespoon Unsalted butter
  • 60 grams Dark chocolate chips
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Caster sugar
  • 5 tablespoons Self raising flour
  • 1 tablespoon Espresso powder
  • 1 tablespoon Water
  • 1 tablespoon Kahlua


  1. 1. In a small saucepan melt together the butter and chocolate then pour it into a microwave safe mug.

    2. One by one whisk in the egg, sugar, flour, espresso and the water. Add the Kahlua and with the tip of a knife, swirl a pattern on top.

    3. Cook in the microwave for 1 minute 30 seconds at 800 watts. Leave to stand for a few minutes to cool down then enjoy.
